About The Lone Star State Archaeological Society Logo
With the introduction of Texas into the Central States Archaeological Society, an appropriate logo needed to be selected. Since Texas has long been noted for its Corner Tang Knives, one example (pictured below) was considered to represent the most prolific tang knife area of Bell County in Central Texas. The diagonal Comer Tang Knife chosen is made from black chert native to Bell county. This knife was pictured in the Austin Daily Tribune 1941, found by E. F. Pohl during his extensive excavation of the area in the 1930's. It was also pictured in Who's Who In Indian Relics #3, Ed Hartman Collection. Overall workmanship and measurements 6 1/4'' x 1 13/16" make this Corner Tang Knife suitable for the logo representing "The Lone Star State Archaeological Society".
