What do I have?

Haas

I found this last year in my garden.  It is 6.5 x 5.5 inches and is 2.6 inches thick.  It is made of very heavy stone.  I have no idea what I have or its value.  I live in the western part of Virginia near Staunton.  Any ideas would be really appreciated!

Hello,
Can anyone help me identify the type of material this large blade is made of?  This is an Ex-Ed Payne piece but I have no information as to where the piece was found or the type of material.
The third photo is a magnified view of the material.

Thanks,
Mark

My First Find

This is My First Find and it turned out to be pretty special...you might be able to get a better view at www.sweetwaterknife.com

This was found this year in a small creek in Groveland, NY.  The area it was found in is rich with Indian Artifacts.  I have only been picking for a short time and do not know much about anything in Indian Artifacts.  This item looks to me like a buffalo or a bird.  It has a small hole where a laniard went through.  The part that looks like the head is actually sharp, so it could have been used as a skinning tool.  I also wonder if the notches might have been used to hone arrows?  The item is made form rock and is 4" long by about an 1 1/8" wide.  I believe the item is held as shown in photos, as it fits perfectly in the hand, and is smooth where the thumb and fingers rest.  Any input would be appreciated and if you need more info from me please ask.  Im trying to find out what it is and approximately the time period it would be from.
