  • Referance's for artifact's history and provenance; State Genealogical research, Prehistoric Anthropology and Artifact's in North America, Sun circles and human hands,1491 New revalatoins of the America's before Columbus and The historical Atlas of Native America. I dont neccesarily agree with everything in some of these publications and there is allot of process of alimination involved.

  • Butch, this pleases me that you know of the Cccaneechie and you dont collect for the sport of it only.If you live near a tradeing path (game trail's) check out, Sun circles and human hands. That has a 15'th cetury map of early native trade routs.I discovered a tradeing village next to my house. In that spot I have found items that would be dated "Archiac to Mississippain".Poss even,"Paleo" ???

  • Todd, the items I find here are Archaic Period Artifacts, a bit early. However my house does sit near the ancient Occaneechie Trading Path.

  • Hey Heather want some help with the grid digging? I'm in Austin 1.5 away. If you you would consider letting me help out with that. I would take you to that new mound i found here in Austin is you're ever in town. Just an idea. I like meeting new people and i never go to a mound that someone takes me too without asking or letting them know first. that's just not right.

  • Travis you are most likely in a residential erea. The Tradeing centers are mostly near rivers. Hope that helps and would love to see some pics.

  • Butch, Desoto was in that erea around 1539 ish so the Julian,NC artifacts may have been "Chiaha" people.

  • I am new to the world of artifacts but I am hooked. I centeral Indiana its that time of year. This past week-end I found a real nice spot on a plowed field with plenty of rain. Near where I have found several points and tools, I have also found broken peices of pottery and several glass buttons. Just curious could this have been a trading point?

  • Well, I may have been somewhat hasty. It interests me to know more about my artifacts! I'm just not very good at it and it frustrates me. Everybody should learn terminology and so forth. It's very helpful.

  • Hi Todd, the majority are from NC/SC. I found the Rhyolite ones on my property in Julian, NC. Pipes are from Southern Ohio. The axe and celt are from SC. All personal finds.
